GearTrade had its beginnings when skitrade.com was first registered in September of 1998. Since then, the original idea expanded and evolved into its current form. GearTrade was co-founded in June 1999, in Provo, Utah, by a group of outdoor enthusiasts and entrepreneurs who noticed a need for a convenient marketplace for individuals and companies looking to buy and sell used and retail outdoor gear.

These outdoor enthusiasts realized that the problem was not a lack of gear, but simply that there was not an efficient marketplace for the distribution of closeout and used outdoor gear to the masses. GearTrade overcomes these inefficiencies and streamlines the entire process of bringing all the sellers and buyers of used and closeout outdoor gear together on one web site.

This new marketplace is helping specialty retailers, manufacturers, and independent sales reps enhance their relationships with outdoor enthusiasts and with each other. Unlike auctions, where the selling price is based on bidding, the seller fixes pricing for items on GearTrade at the time an item is listed. OUR AMBITIONS

GearTrade's founders and employees are avid outdoor enthusiasts. It is this enthusiasm for the outdoors (and a lack of unlimited funds) that shaped GearTrade and our ambitions. We try to take some time off to enjoy the diverse outdoor experiences that can be found here in Utah. Some of the pursuits that we enjoy are skiing, snowboarding, climbing, mountain biking, ice climbing, backpacking, camping, rafting, and mountaineering. The Canyons and Snowbird are our resorts of choice to experience "The Greatest Snow on Earth."^TM

Moab, BrianHead, and most other places in Utah are great for mountain biking. Provo and Santaquin Canyons have great ice climbing in the winter. Rock climbing is nice with Granite in the Cottonwood Canyons, tough Limestone in American Fork, big walls in Zion National Park, and more Desert Climbs than you can shake your rack at. All in all, we feel that you get more bang for your buck here in Utah. If you're heading out this way, let us know and we'll point you in the right direction.
